Why do I ride these boards?

Why do I ride such strange boards? Three words: speed adventure surprise. Really if it were one word it would be “feel”.

While other boards work awesome there’s something else I get from the boards I ride. It’s supremely exciting to feel the board come alive as it speeds down the line. It’s actually startling to feel it work. Who’d have thought a slab of wood could do this?! Obviously there’s that novelty factor of it being a solid wood board with no rocker or fins. But, I think as a creative person, I would rather draw my own lines in my own way.  I want to surf how I want to surf. I don’t care how I should surf or how I should surf like someone else does. This way of riding waves feels special. It is liberating. There are no rules in this art form. There is this feeling of freedom being able to slide around however you want, wherever you want. It is moving art. What was impossible has become possible. Logic is defied.  No more script to follow. You get to surf how you want to surf. End result: fun.

The Kona Model Alaia

72” x 19.5” x 1.25

From trimming knee high breakers to barreling waves, this Alaia will prove more than capable. This tried and true design demands attention and defines its own style. The subtle flex characteristics and bottom contours allow the board to fit into the wave and remain responsive and in control. The Kona model is a board with surprising control. Being that there is little volume in this design, it is best enjoyed by surfers with a good level of fitness and experience in riding surfboards of all kinds. However, even the average rider can figure it out with some dedication. The Kona will put smiles on your face for many years to come. Slide, glide, and enjoy the ride!

The “SRFDORD”

(Pronounced “Surf-door-d”)

60” x 28” x 1.25”

There’s nothing like the feel of a traditional Hawaiian Alaia, but I wanted an even faster, more stable, and buoyant board… and I definitely wanted more waves. One of the highlights of the “Srfdord” is that it’s suited for surfers of all abilities and waves of all sizes. The heart of the elegant design and ride characteristics found in the ancient Alaia is the fact that it is designed to be finless from the ground up. This equates to a magical glide and that lives in this board too. With about 28” of width, the “Srfdord” planes quickly and effortlessly accelerates capturing every ounce of energy in the wave. This design is fast! This and combined with the short rail length, this design is surprisingly maneuverable and holds steady even in steep wave faces. Plus, the “Srfdord” can make steeper drops and pearls less, and that means more waves successfully conquered!

The Malama Kai Paipo

48” x 19” x 1.25”

This is our most popular board and a customer favorite for sure. "Malama Kai" roughly translates to "Take Care of the Ocean" in Hawaiian. This finless paipo is made to have some serious fun!. Paipos are designed to be ridden prone, but a few people can actually stand and shred on them. Paipos are an absolute blast in hollow surf! They are way faster than a bodyboard, and most agree they have much more soul. The subtle flex characteristics allow the board to fit in the wave but remain stiff enough to crank a mean cutback with style and speed to spare. Got small waves? The Malama Kai is AWESOME in the small stuff, because it’s so fast that it doesn't take much of a wave to get you going. Just strap on some fins, drop in at the last possible second, and feel like a grom again.

The “Kohala” Model Paipo

48” x 19” x 1.25”

The “Kohala” has similar ride characteristics as the “Malama Kai,” except the crescent tail helps keep the board from rotating around from underneath the rider. Also, it allows a slightly longer rail for added control. Small waves watch out!
